SF Studios and US major Universal enter new partnership for physical home entertainment distribution in the Nordic and Baltic regions

16 November 2020

SF Studios and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) have entered into an agreement for SF Studios to distribute UPHE’s Blu-ray and DVD home entertainment products throughout the Nordic and Baltic regions. Effective March 1, 2021, the arrangement will cover distribution of a broad array of Universal film and television content across both territories, in a move that serves to optimize the physical home entertainment business in these markets.

Among the high-profile and diverse slate of Universal offerings included in the new arrangement are Trolls World Tour, the Jurassic World and Fast and Furious franchises, including the forthcoming 2021 instalment “F9” and the complete catalog of Illumination family fare including next year’s highly anticipated Minions: The Rise of Gru, as well as new and classic favorites from DreamWorks Animation, the Downton Abbey series, and many more.

“The agreement with Universal comes at a time when we are repositioning the physical home entertainment business and are aiming to drive it much further”, says Martin Brandtler, Nordic Head of Home Entertainment Distribution at SF Studios. “We share the same basic belief in the format and its future possibilities, and Universal’s esteemed catalog and exceptional slate of exciting new content should attract a massive consumer base in the Nordic and Baltic markets. We are incredibly happy and proud to have entered into this agreement with Universal.”

”This collaboration with SF Studios provides an important opportunity for us to ensure the longevity of our physical business and create greater scale across the Nordics and Baltics during this unique and transformative time in the home entertainment space,” said John Revill, Executive Vice President, Global Partnerships for UPHE. “We are confident that through this partnership, we are ideally positioned to navigate changes in the business while further developing our retail footprint throughout these regions.”

As of 2021, SF Studios will represent the US majors Universal and Sony in distributing physical home entertainment products in the Nordic and Baltic markets and Warner Bros. in the Nordic market.
