Today SF Studios releases the trailer and poster for the highly anticipated large-scale period drama, Margrete – Queen of the North. The film stars Trine Dyrholm in the lead as Margrete I. Margrete is considered the most powerful regent in Scandinavian history, as she gathered the three Nordic countries Denmark, Norway and Sweden into a peaceful and visionary union. The film will premiere in cinemas in Denmark on September 16 followed a theatrical release in the Nordics during fall 2021. Margrete – Queen of the North is the untold story of a visionary woman who stands at the absolute center of power. She is an amazing woman, ahead of her time, who sacrifices herself completely for her vision, for her countries. She creates something extraordinarily grand with enormous consequences to her personal life. But then a shocking rumor reaches the castle walls, and one wrong choice can ruin everything.

Director Charlotte Sieling says: “Margrete I was an impressive woman, but surprisingly no one has portrayed her on film. I want to give her a voice and tell her about one of the strongest rulers Europe has ever seen. The woman who created the Kalmar Union, a community among Denmark, Norway and Sweden that lasted for 126 years, and the woman who ruled despite and not because of her gender. Margrete – Queen of the North is my portrait of a woman whose challenges, despite the over 600 years of distance in time, were not so different from those that women struggle with today. Career, family, motherhood. The film shows what price Margrete I had to pay for being an incomparable stateswoman.”

Director Charlotte Sieling has a long career as one of the most acclaimed directors of Danish TV-series such as The Killing (2009), The Bridge (2011) and Borgen (2015) while at the same time being one of the most sought-after European directors for US blockbuster series such as Homeland. With Margrete -Queen of the North Charlotte Sieling introduces herself as an exciting and fresh feature contender on the European cinematic stage. Most recently, she directed HBO’s upcoming horror series Lovecraft Country.

Besides Trine Dyrholm (Queen of Hearts) the leading role as Margrete 1, the cast also includes Søren Malling (The Investigation), Morten Hee Andersen (Ride Upon The Storm), Jakob Oftebro (Kon-tiki), Bjørn Floberg (Out Stealing Horses), Magnus Krepper (Queen of Hearts), Thomas W. Gabrielsson (A Royal Affair), Agnes Rase (Midsommar), Simon J. Berger (Exit) and Paul Blackthorne (Arrow).
