Pretty Young Love (Danish title: SMUKKERE), the sequel to the popular Danish youth film Pretty Young Thing (Danish title: SMUK), has started its principal shooting. The film is produced by SF Studios with Marcella Dichmann as producer and is expected to premiere in Danish theatres during summer 2025. SF Studios distributes the film in the Nordics. In Pretty Young Love, we return to Rosenholm Gymnasium, where Selma is about to start her second year. One late night out in the city, she meets a charming young man, and an innocent flirt occurs. However, things take an unexpected turn when the charming young man suddenly appears at the school as Selma's new music teacher.
The first film, released in 2022, achieved great success amongst teenagers and young adults with over 100,000 admissions in Denmark. It garnered two Danish Svend Awards: Best Danish Youth Picture and Breakthrough of the Year for actor Albert Rudbeck Lindhardt. Additionally, the film received a Robert nomination for Best Youth Film.
“From the very beginning, it has been a burning desire for Pretty Young Thing to have a sequel, and with the film’s impressive reception, that dream could come true. We hit the mark in depicting the dilemmas that also resonate with the audience. The audience's love for the film truly gave us the energy to continue the story. Selma is our new main character, but it remains a tale of love, friendship, sexual liberation, and high school culture. Most importantly, like Pretty Young Thing, it is a film about boundaries—about boundlessness, knowing your limits, facing them, and pushing past them. We look forward to expanding the universe of Pretty Young Thing once again”, says Marcella Dichmann, producer
In the sequel, Karoline Hamm (Loving Adults, Carmen Curlers) returns to her breakout role as Selma, which earned her significant acclaim in the first installment of the film series. Karoline stars alongside Flora Ofelia Hofmann Lindahl (Cry Wolf, As in Heaven), who has received several nominations and won numerous prestigious awards. She won a Robert Award for Best Actress in a TV Series for her breakthrough role in Cry Wolf (2020) and received both a Bodil and Robert nomination for As in Heaven (2021). Flora Ofelia became the youngest ever to receive the Best Leading Role award at San Sebastian in 2021 for As in Heaven. Flora Ofelia plays Selma’s friend Jasmin, while the friend Alberte is played by another rising star, Anna Munch. Anna Munch (The Class) is a familiar face from numerous TV series and Christmas calendars. Pretty Young Love marks Anna's feature film debut. Among other actors in the ensemble, we find rising stars such as Tue Lunding (Chorus Girls, In the Lost Lands) and Salvador Selaya Steensig (Salsa, Kontra)
Pretty Young Love is directed by Mogens Hagedorn, who gained significant international success with the Netflix series Ragnarok (2020-2023), and is written by the award-winning screenwriter Line Mørkeby, who also wrote the screenplay for the first film. SF Studios produces with producer Marcella Dichmann and with support from the Danish Film Institute in collaboration with TV2 and Netflix. REinvent handles international sales.
