Pretty Young Thing, Pretty Young Love and Pretty Young Summer: SF Studios begins production on the final film in the Pretty Young trilogy
Three films. Three years of high school. One last summer. SF Studios has started principal photography on Pretty Young Summer (Smukkest), the final film in the popular Danish Pretty Young trilogy. Produced by Marcella Dichmann, the film will premiere in Danish cinemas in autumn 2027. SF Studios handles Nordic distribution, with LevelK managing international sales.
Since its debut, the Pretty Young series has become one of Denmark's most successful cinema franchises among young audiences in recent years. Set during the final year of high school, the story follows Jasmin as graduation approaches and the future begins to feel both exciting and uncertain. With Pretty Young Summer, audiences are invited back one last time to a world defined by friendship, first love, identity, and the transition into adulthood.
Producer Marcella Dichmann comments: “When we made Pretty Young Thing (Smuk), we never imagined how deeply it would resonate. The films have connected with audiences through an honest portrayal of youth, relationships and identity, and we've seen how deeply the story and its characters have resonated with viewers. With Pretty Young Summer (Smukkest), we're able to conclude the story at a moment that feels true to where the audience is in their own lives - on the edge of adulthood. It's both a celebration and a farewell”.
Director Mogens Hagedorn adds: “I’m incredibly excited to return to this high school universe, because that period of life is so intense and transformative. Those three years are a time when everything feels bigger - the crushes, the friendships, the insecurities, the ambitions, the parties and the pressure. You’ve left childhood behind, but you’re not quite an adult yet. Being able to conclude this trilogy means a great deal to me. Pretty Young Summer is a story that is emotional, honest and full of life, and it captures something very true about high school: it’s not just an education, but a defining chapter that helps shape who you become.”
Pretty Young Summer brings together one of the most exciting young ensembles in Danish film today. Flora Ofelia Hofmann Lindahl, widely recognized as one of Denmark's most acclaimed young actors, returns in the lead role as Jasmin following acclaimed performances across film and television. Josephine Højbjerg, known for her breakout role in the Tinka trilogy, joins the cast as Ava, a new addition to Jasmin’s circle of friends. The ensemble is further strengthened by newcomers Jacob Spang Olsen, Rasmus Høyer and Sigurd Dalgas, while Anna Munch returns as Alberte.
The film is directed by Mogens Hagedorn and written by screenwriter Line Mørkeby, who also wrote the previous two films in the trilogy. It is produced by SF Studios with support from the Danish Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and Creative Europe Media in collaboration with TV 2 and LevelK.
