SF Studios brings Life on Seacrow Island to the big screen as a feature film
Following the success of the 2025 television series Life on Seacrow Island (Vi på Saltkråkan), SF Studios is bringing Astrid Lindgren's beloved archipelago world to cinemas. The feature film is now in production, directed by Fredrik Edfeldt, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Karin Arrhenius. It is produced by SF Studios in collaboration with Astrid Lindgren AB, Sveriges Television, Film Stockholm and Film i Väst, with support from the Swedish Film Institute and the Nordic Film & TV Fond.
The TV series was one of the most acclaimed Swedish productions of 2025 and introduced the Melkerson family and life in the Stockholm archipelago to a new generation of viewers. During the Cannes Film Festival, the series was also nominated for “Location of the Year – Natural” at the Global Production Awards, and last week it also received a Kristallen nomination in the Children’s Program of the Year category.
The film will see the return of the cast, including Vega Åhman as Tjorven, Elton Larsson as Pelle and Lovisa Lindblad as Stina, among others. Filming will begin in August and will once again take place in the Stockholm archipelago, whose distinctive setting gave the series its unique character.
“Life on Seacrow Island is a story that continues to resonate, generation after generation. When we saw how warmly the series was received by a new audience, moving forward with a feature film felt like a natural next step,” says Jon Nohrstedt, Producer at SF Studios.
“Seacrow Island has a way of staying with you. To return and tell more stories about these characters – this time for the big screen – is a privilege,” says Karin Arrhenius, Screenwriter.
The feature film returns to the Stockholm archipelago and the Melkerson family in a story about friendship, freedom and adventure – themes that have made Life on Seacrow Island one of Astrid Lindgren’s most beloved stories for generations.
“The 2025 version of Life on Seacrow Island was a success on every level: the writing, the direction, the cast and the reception. Now audiences will have the chance to return to this world, and we couldn’t be more delighted,” says Max Hallén, CEO of Astrid Lindgren AB.
The film is produced by SF Studios, with Jon Nohrstedt and Hanna Lundmark as Producers and Emma Hägglund as Executive Producer.
For decades, SF Studios has brought Astrid Lindgren’s works to the screen, from Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga and Ronja the Robber’s Daughter to the acclaimed 2025 television series Life on Seacrow Island. The new feature film marks the next chapter in this long-standing tradition.
