The official teaser for the film Beloved has now been released, offering a first look at the upcoming Norwegian feature film written by Nobel Prize laureate Jon Fosse and directed by Erik Poppe.
Beloved marks the first feature‑length screen adaptation of an original screenplay written by Fosse, created specifically for cinema and not based on his published literary or dramatic works. Directed by Poppe, the film is a visually driven and emotionally grounded drama that explores love, longing and distance through Fosse’s distinctive minimalist voice and a strong cinematic sensibility.
“It has been a great pleasure and a privilege to work so closely with Jon Fosse on this screenplay. Translating his quiet, musical universe to film has been an artistic journey I will carry with me for the rest of my life,” says director Erik Poppe.
Shot in the dramatic landscapes of Western Norway, Beloved uses nature as an integral part of its storytelling. The changing light, wind and sea reflect the characters’ inner lives and reinforces the film’s restrained yet powerful emotional expression. In the leading roles, Leo Magnus de la Nuez and Kristi‑Helene Giæver Engeberg star as Asle and Gerd — a couple who find each other, start a family, and gradually drift apart as distance grows between them.
“Beloved touches on something universal — closeness and separation, what is said and what remains unspoken. At the same time, the film has clear international potential. Fosse’s voice is deeply rooted in Western Norway, yet resonates globally,” says producer Finn Gjerdrum.
Beloved is produced by SF Studios’ Norwegian production company Paradox, and will be released theatrically by SF Studios in Norway on 18 September 2026.
