Frederik Louis Hviid and Tobias Lindholm join forces in the new Danish feature film TORPEDO – an intense thriller dealing with the Danish underworld where kids and youngsters are weaponized in organized crime – so-called torpedoes. TORPEDO is produced by Marcella Dichmann for SF Studios and is expected to open in cinemas in 2027.

TORPEDO is written by Frederik Louis Hviid and Tobias Lindholm and is to be directed by Frederik Louis Hviid. The story follows the 16-year-old Kian after he realizes that he has sold drugs to the wrong people. The responsibility for the failed deal rests squarely on his shoulders. But there is an easy fix to his problem: he just needs to get on the train from Aarhus to Copenhagen and do a small job that will make everything all right. He does not yet know how, but in the course of the next 24 hours, it dawns on him. Kian must commit a brutal murder of a man targeted by his support base. If he refuses, not only himself but also his family will be in danger.

TORPEDO is a raw and relentless thriller about grooming, systemic violence and about how adult criminals create child soldiers in a world where the need of acceptance and belonging means everything. The film is directed by Frederik Louis Hviid who broke through internationally with his feature film debut “Shorta” (2020). The film entered the International Critics Week at the Venice Film Festival, was sold to distribution all over the world and received great attention at award ceremonies both in Denmark and internationally. Frederik Louis Hviid has since been known as one of the most uncompromising Danish directors with the award-winning TV series “Prisoner” (2023) and most recently with ”The Quiet Ones” (2024) which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year.

Director Frederik Louis Hviid says, “Torpedoes are a relatively new phenomenon which spreads fast – also here in Denmark. To me it has been important to understand what happens when violence is perpetrated by young people who have not chosen to do so and who cannot yet comprehend the consequences of their actions. It is a matter we have rarely seen in Danish film, and hence the work on TORPEDO has required an extensive research before we could achieve any measure of truth. The collaboration with Tobias, whom I believe is one of the most trend-setting voices in Danish film, has been both inspiring and essential to give the story the heart and unrelenting realism it demands.”

Tobias Lindholm is among the most award-winning and internationally acclaimed Danish scriptwriters and directors with feature film such as “The Good Nurse” (2022), ”Another Round” (2020), ”A Hijacking” (2012), ”A War” (2015), ”The Hunt” (2012) and ”R” (2010) together with the TV series ”The Investigation” (2020) and ”Mindhunter” (2017).

Tobias Lindholm says, “With his focus on the scary reality in Denmark, Frederik Louis Hviid’s idea for TORPEDO moved me greatly. As evidence from the dark side of the Danish dream – and a rare opportunity to focus on the kids who disappear in the promises and lies of the world of crime.”

TORPEDO is inspired by real events and developed from extensive research and interviews with the police, lawyers, researchers, reporters and young torpedoes in sheltered institutions, and it is produced by SF Studios with producer Marcella Dichmann.

Marcella Dichmann says, “TORPEDO is a film which has evolved from a deep concern for our children and youngsters. It is a painful story, but a necessary one. As a producer – and as a mother – I feel a strong need to create a space for reflection and understanding. It is fiction, but fiction which is frighteningly close to the reality of our daily lives. The ambition is to make a touching and thrilling film that will stay with us long after the lights are turned on in the theater.

TORPEDO is expected to open in cinemas in 2027 and will be distributed by SF Studios.
