Kardo Razzazi and Carla Sehn in The Åre Murders

Acclaimed Swedish actors Carla Sehn and Kardo Razzazi play the leading roles in Viaplay’s crime series The Åre Murders, that is based on Viveca Sten's bestselling novel series of the same name. SF Studios produces the six-episode series that is currently filmed in Åre. The Åre Murders will premiere on Viaplay at a date to be announced.

The Åre Murders is a crime series set in a Swedish mountain paradise where the local police unit struggles with scarce resources to solve serious crimes.

The series is based on Viveca Sten's bestselling books about the police officers Daniel Lindskog (Kardo Razzazi) and Hanna Ahlander (Carla Sehn). Hanna lives for her job at the city police in Stockholm and when she is suspended from her job and dumped by her partner, her whole world collapses. She takes refuge from her personal and professional problems in the scenic village of Åre. But when a young woman disappears one freezing St. Lucia’s Day, Hanna is rapidly drawn into the investigation. Local police officer Daniel Lindskog reluctantly accepts her help – but can they trust each other?

"It is unique to film in such a spectacular place as Åre, where nature becomes a decisive element in the story. I think it does something to me as an actor. It is fantastic to portray Hanna, a character who already has a large fan base worldwide that longs for the series", says Carla Sehn.

Kardo Razzazi plays the local policeman Daniel Lindskog, who has a tough family situation and struggles in an understaffed police station when he is reluctantly forced to accept help from Hanna.

"The filming in Åre has been great fun and exciting! Viveca Sten's books are incredibly popular, so it will be most interesting to share what we've done here with the audience when the series is released on Viaplay. Everyone in the team has worked really hard to make this series as good as possible. The fact that I also get to work with such a skilled actress as Carla is a dream come true. She maintains a level that elevates the entire project", says Kardo Razzazi.

The star-studded cast also includes Swedish actors Charlie Gustafsson, Francisco Sobrado, Pia Johansson, Cecilia von der Esch, Moa Gammel, Siham Shurafa, Olle Sarri, Björn Elgerd, Henrik Norlén, Philip Oros, Samuel Astor, Sofia Ledarp, Linton Calmroth, Fredrik Söderholm, Frida Argento, Robin Stegmar, Baxter Renman, Freddie Mosten-Jacob, Diana Gardner, Viktor Åkerblom, Jens Hultén and the Norwegian actors Jon Øigarden, Agnes Kittelsen and Amalia Holm. In addition, we see the singer Maxida Märak in the role as coroner.

"I am extremely proud that we are going to make a series based on the bestseller The Åre Murders, which is written by one of Sweden's absolute greatest crime writers, Viveca Sten. The combination of the books' relevance and the production's high level of creators, both behind and in front of the camera, makes the series both exciting and current. I'm looking forward to the premiere of this winter crime drama that I'm convinced will reach far beyond Sweden's borders", says Filippa Wallestam, EVP and Chief Content Officer at Viaplay Group.

The Åre Murders is produced by SF Studios in co-production with Viaplay and with the support of Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Joakim Eliasson (Honour, Gåsmamman) and Alain Darborg (Red Dot) direct based on a script written by scriptwriters Karin Gidfors and Jimmy Lindgren (Honour). The series is produced by Brita Lundqvist and executive producers are Susann Billberg at SF Studios, author Viveca Sten and Helena Larand at Viaplay. Global sales are handled by Viaplay Content Distribution.
