Film director Mehdi Avaz has started shooting his new feel-good drama Toscana - about a man’s journey to find himself. Toscana is a beautiful and romantic film, a tribute to love and food, starring Anders Matthesen in the leading role and Ghita Nørby, Lærke Winther, singer Christopher and the two international stars Andrea Bosca and Christiana Dell’Anna from HBO Nordic’s critically acclaimed mafia series Gomorra. Toscana is expected to premiere in cinemas in December 2021 and will be distributed by SF Studios.

Mehdi Avaz took audiences and the film industry by storm when he premiered with his debut film While We Live (2017) three years ago. Only two years later he presented the drama Collision (2019), while this year he has produced the critically acclaimed TV series ALFA, which has just been shown on TV2 Zulu. Now he is ready to present his third feature film Toscana, where he has once again assembled an impressive cast.

Mehdi Avaz says: “In a very short time I have become the father of two lovely boys, which has greatly changed my focus on life. Toscana is a life-affirming tale that must remind the audience that they must enjoy life and believe in themselves. They must dare to give in, re-saddle and let in new people. It's a great message to give the audience after watching the movie. At the same time, we are right now in a difficult-to-change world, where it is important that we keep art and the community alive - we must believe that the world will be good again. It is the first time that I put my focus on feel-good, but it will be vulnerable, sensual, beautiful and touching as well, and it is fantastic to see Anders Matthesen unfold in a role that we have never seen him in before. It all fell into place really quickly, and there is a super energy and a great atmosphere around the project.”

Last year, Anders Matthesen starred in the critically acclaimed audience success Out of Tune and received both a Robert and Bodil nomination for his role as prison choir leader Niels. The year before, he was behind one of Danish film's best-selling titles ever, Ternet Ninja. The cast also includes the internationally acclaimed Italian actors Christiana Dell’Anna (Gomorra) and Andrea Bosca (3Caminos, Quantico) together with Danish stars such as Ghita Nørby (Silent Heart, Key House Mirror, Hamsun) and Lærke Winther (Dicte, 3 Things), as well as the actors Sebastian Jessen, Ari Alexander, Karoline Brygmann and Christoffer Jindyl. In addition, the singer Christopher makes his long-awaited feature film debut with Toscana.

"We are all looking forward to giving the audience a bite of Tuscany. We must not only celebrate life and love, we must also pay tribute to the food and therefore we have one of Denmark's most famous chefs with us as a consultant. Thomas Herman, who has achieved great international recognition from his work at Falsled Kro, Arzak in San Sebastián, La Broche in Madrid and King Hans Kælder, must ensure the authenticity of everyone in the kitchen ", says Mehdi Avaz.

The three brothers Avaz - Mehdi, Milad and Misam - who, since their introduction to the Danish film industry a few years ago, have followed each other in thick and thin, have this year decided to focus on their respective projects. They still help each other on their respective productions, but no longer have a company together. Mehdi Avaz has gone solo in Rocket Road Pictures, and the film company has just moved to Filmbyen in Aarhus, where Mehdi already has three new Danish feature films ready for production in collaboration with DR and SF Studios.
