Palme d’Or winner Ruben Östlund wraps up shooting of Triangle of Sadness in Greece

17 November 2020

On the set of Triangle of Sadness

Director Ruben Östlund has now completed the shooting of the epic satire Triangle of Sadness that takes place in the universe of the fashion world and the super-rich. The film is the sequel to the Palme d’Or winner The Square. The filming started on February 19 in Trollhättan in the western part of Sweden with, among others, Hollywood star Woody Harrelson and international actors Harris Dickson and Charlbi Dean Kriek in the leading roles, but was then forced to pause for three months due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. On September 19, the last nine weeks of filming started in Greece. Triangle of Sadness will have its world premiere in 2021 and SF Studios will handle Nordic distribution.

The entire team and the international star cast have now finished the shooting in Greece on the yacht Christina Onassis in the Ionian Sea between Greece and Italy and on the island of Evia. In Triangle of Sadness, models Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean Kriek), along with a few billionaires, are surprised by a storm. The boat sinks and they are left stranded on a desert island. In the struggle for survival, the hierarchies are turned upside down and suddenly everyone is in a post-apocalyptic situation where all civilization has ceased.

"I could not have hoped for a production that worked better in these extreme circumstances. Blasting Onassis yacht feels like a worthy end to filming. Not just considering the theme of the film, but as a tribute to the entire team that has worked so hard!", says director Ruben Östlund.

Internationally acclaimed director Ruben Östlund has put together an international cast with the British actor Harris Dickinson (Beach Rats, The King's Man, The Souvenir: Part II), South African Charlbi Dean (Spud, Black Lightning) and the triple Academy Award-nominee  Woody Harrelson (Three Billboards, Zombieland , Midway) at the top. The cast also includes Danish actors - Zlatko Buric and Vicki Berlin - as well as Swedish Henrik Dorsin (Sunny Side), Dolly De Leon (Verdict) from the Philippines, German Iris Berben (Miss Sixty) and Sunnyi Melles (The Awakening of Motti Wolkenbruch) and Oliver Ford Davies (Star Wars Episodes I, II and III) from the UK.

SF Studios has the Nordic distribution rights and will distribute Triangle of Sadness in all Nordic countries. The film is produced by Platform Produktion and co-produced with Film i Väst, Essential Films, Coproduction Office, SVT, BBC Films, Arte France Cinéma and ZDF / Arte with support from the Swedish Film Institute, Eurimages, BFI, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, The Danish Film Institute, Hamburg Film Fund and Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Imperative Entertainment are executive producers. The Danish co-producer is Per Damgaard Hansen for Coproduction Office APS. Global sales are handled by Philippe Bober's Coproduction Office.
