Today the acclaimed Swedish film collective Crazy Pictures has announced the lead cast in its upcoming sci-fi adventure film UFO Sweden. The 17-year-old rising star Inez Dahl Torhaug is making her feature film debut playing the main character Denise. The lead cast also includes Guldbagge Award-winning Eva Melander, Jesper Barkselius and Sara Shirpey. The shooting has started in Sweden and the film is expected to premiere in Swedish cinemas during Christmas 2022. SF Studios is co-producing and distributing the film in the Nordics. REinvent handles international sales.
UFO Sweden tells the story about a teenage rebel placed in foster care, who suspects that her father is not dead, but has been kidnapped by UFOs. With the help from a UFO association, she is determined to find out the truth.
“It was exciting when our casting agent started the search for the role Denise, we were expecting a long and difficult process. Denise is a character who carries most of the film, so it was extremely important to find the right person portraying her. We were extremely relieved when we saw the tape that Inez sent in, it was her, it was so obvious. We were mesmerized by her presence and knew immediately that she was exactly what we were looking for ", says Olle Tholén at Crazy Pictures.
Denise is played by Inez Dahl Torhaug, 17, who is featured in the TV series The Truth Will Out and was awarded Best Actress at the Grand OFF Award – World Independent Film Awards in 2018 for her performance in the short film I Think I Have a Crush on You.
“When I read the script, I was hooked, this is really such a big and unique project. It is also very exciting to have the opportunity to play such a strong and cool character as Denise and to be able to do all this together with Crazy Pictures. This means I will always leave the set with a smile on my face ", says Inez Dahl Torhaug.
Besides Inez Dahl Torhaug in the role as Denise, the lead cast also includes Guldbagge Award-winning Eva Melander (Border, Flocking), Jesper Barkselius (The Unthinkable, The Hunters 2) and Sara Shirpey (Top Dog, Alex). The shooting has now started in Norrköping, Sweden.
Crazy Pictures got the idea for the film as they learnt about the existing association UFO-Sweden that investigates mysterious phenomena and manages the world’s largest UFO archive, Archives for the unexplained in Norrköping, Sweden. The acclaimed film collective describes their upcoming project UFO Sweden as the love child between The X-Files and Stranger Things, placed in a small town in Sweden. Crazy Pictures' first feature film The Unthinkable was great success both in Sweden and the rest of the world when it premiered in 2018.
UFO Sweden is produced by Crazy Pictures in co-production with SF Studios, Film i Väst and SVT with the support from Norrköping’s Film Fund, The Swedish Film Institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fond. The film is distributed by SF Studios in the Nordics and REinvent handles international sales.
The film is expected to premiere in cinemas in Sweden during Christmas in 2022 followed by a Nordic release.
