The trailer for The Pact has been released today. The Pact is a psychological drama based on real events in the life of world-famous author Karen Blixen (Birthe Neumann) after she returned from Africa and her relationship with the promising young poet Thorkild Bjørnvig (Simon Bennebjerg). The film is directed by Palme d’Or and Academy Award winner Bille August and is produced by SF Studios and MOTOR with producers Jesper Morthorst and Karin Trolle. Nordic distribution is handled by SF Studios and international sales is handled by REinvent International Sales. The film will be released in cinemas in Denmark on April 15.

When Thorkild Bjørnvig's book "The Pact", about his and Blixen's short-lived and turbulent relationship, was published in 1974, it became a literary sensation. The memoir forms the basis for director Bille August's highly anticipated Danish film about Karen Blixen with Birthe Neumann in her first major dramatic film role since The Celebration.

Thorkild Bjørnvig first met Karen Blixen in 1948 - he was 30, she was 63 - and they formed a special bond. A bond that became a secret pact. Bjørnvig was a young, sensitive and easily influenced poet with a wife and child. Blixen was a woman ahead of her time - strong, composed and deeply fascinating.

About The Pact
Aged 63, Karen Blixen is at the pinnacle of her fame and next in line to win the Nobel Prize for literature. It has been 17 years since she gave up her famous African adventure only to return to Denmark with her life in ruins. Devastated by syphilis and having lost the love of her life she has reinvented herself as a literary sensation. She is an isolated genius, however, until the day she lays eyes on a handsome 30 year old poet. She promises him literary stardom if he in return will obey her unconditionally - even at the cost of him losing everything else in his life. The film is a heart-wrenching story of a sorcerer and her apprentice, about how far you will go for love and art.

Birthe Neumann plays Blixen opposite the new talent Simon Bennebjerg as Bjørnvig. The cast also includes Asta Kamma August, Nanna Skaarup Voss, Anders Heinrichsen and Marie Mondrup. Bille August is directing based on a script by Christian Torpe. Director of photography is Manuel Alberto Claro, sound designer Srdjan Kurpjel, production designer Jette Lehmann, costume designer Anne-Dorthe Eskildsen, composer Frédéric Vercheval, Dennis Knudsen and Susanne Herredsbjerg Søbye are in charge of make-up, while Janus Billeskov Jansen and Anne Østerud have edited the film.

The Pact is produced by SF Studios and MOTOR with producers Jesper Morthorst and Karin Trolle with support from the Danish Film Institute, FilmFyn, TV2 Denmark, Nordic Film & TV Fond and Yle. The film is co-produced with Scope Pictures with support from the Tax Shelter of the Belgian Federal Government via Scope Invest.

SF Studios is distributing the film in the Nordics and REinvent International Sales is handling worldwide sales. The film will premiere in cinemas in Denmark on April 15 followed by a release in the Nordics.

The Pact will be presented as a Work In Progress during the Nordic Film Market/Gothenburg International Film Festival on February 5.
