Director Tilde Harkamp (Hunting Season) has just started filming the Danish youth film Pretty Young Thing with some of Denmark’s rising stars in the leading roles. The cast includes Andrea Gadeberg (Held for Ransom, Riders of Justice), who recently received a Svend Award for Hope of the Year, Sylvester Byder (Deliver Us, Erna at War) and Albert Rudbeck (Another Round, Riders of Justice). Pretty Young Thing is written by the award-winning scriptwriter Line Mørkeby and produced by SF Studios with producer Marcella Dichmann. The film is expected to premiere in Danish cinemas in 2022. SF Studios distributes the film in the Nordics and REinvent handles international sales.

Pretty Young Thing takes place at Rosenholm gymnasium at the start of the school year. There are a lot of initiation rituals that the new first-year students have to go through, which are of great importance for their future life in high school, and not the least for their personal life. We follow six young boys and girls who are quickly challenged to their own limits in their own way….

Director Tilde Harkamp says: "It has been our goal from the very beginning to meet the young people at eye level, and I have been really looking forward to working with all the young acting talents. But it is also exciting to work with the underlying theme where identity, the search for boundaries and party culture will be the framework for a hopefully new youth classic in 2022. "

Tilde Harkamp has directed many renowned Danish TV-series such as The Other World (2016) and most recently, the Danish box office hit Hunting Season (2019).

The film features some of Danish film's greatest young talents, who, despite their young age, already have impressive CVs.

Andrea Gadeberg had her feature film debut in Held for Ransom (2019). She has also starred in Anders Thomas Jensen's successful film Riders of Justice (2020), which secured her a Bodil nomination and a Robert as the Female Lead of the Year at the award ceremony this year. Earlier this week she received the Svend Award for the Hope of the Year.

Albert Rudbeck had his feature debut in The Day Will Come (2016) and has since then been featured in Land of Glass (2018), in Thomas Vinterberg's Academy Award winning film Another Round (2020) and in several TV series, including The Other World (2016), Follow the Money (2019) and Pulse (2020).

Sylvester Byder made his feature film debut in The Contest: To the Stars and Back in 2014 and has since then starred in the TV series Deliver Us (2019), Into the Darkness (2020) and Henrik Ruben Genz’ Erna at War (2020), where he played opposite Trine Dyrholm.

The cast also includes Karoline Hamm, who has appeared in the TV series Equinox (2020) and most recently in the upcoming Netflix series Loving Adults (2022), while Oliver Due has appeared in Limbo (2012) and Klassen (2020). Fie Petersen debuts as an actress.

Fie Petersen says: “Pretty Young Thing differs from other youth films. I am super excited about this project, both because I will work with a team of talented, sweet people, but also because I am proud to help shed light on some of the issues that are related to the annual high school traditions. As I read the script, I thought, “Why hasn’t anyone made this film before?” It contains so many important things, but perhaps these initiation rituals are so integrated into our society, that we forget to highlight them? I hope the audience will recognize themselves in the characters.”

Karoline Hamm adds: “I am also really looking forward to work with such cool and talented team in creating a story about something that we all can relate to and tell it through the eyes of six different high school students – with all their thoughts and mixed emotions.”

Pretty Young Thing is written by the award-winning scriptwriter Line Mørkeby. She has received several awards for her achievements in children´s theater.

The film is produced by SF Studios and producer Marcella Dichmann, who is also producing the upcoming Netflix feature films Loving Adults and the recently announced Ehrengard, that will be directed by internationally acclaimed and award-winning director Bille August and featuring set design by Queen Margrethe II.

Marcella Dichmann says: ”Pretty Young Thing revolves around the themes of daring to be yourself and accepting yourself for who you are. We are happy and proud to work with such great talents and bring important stories to audiences across the Nordics and internationally.”

Pretty Young Thing is produced by SF Studios with support from the Danish Film Institute. SF Studios distributes the film in the Nordics and REinvent handles international sales.

The film will premiere in cinemas in Denmark in 2022.
