Woody Harrelson is now shooting with Ruben Östlund in Trollhättan for his next feature Triangle of Sadness

Ruben Östlund has resumed shooting on his satire Triangle of Sadness, following a three month break due to COVID-19. Shooting began in February, in a studio in Trollhättan, but the crew got just 25 days in the can before the decision was made to halt production. Now they are back to wrap up Östlund’s new opus with a stellar, international cast led by Harris Dickinson and Charlbi Dean, and American actor Woody Harrelson as The Captain. The film is expected to premiere worldwide in 2021 and SF Studios will handle the Nordic distribution.

Triple Academy Award-nominee Harrelson (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, The Messenger, The People vs. Larry Flynt)  arrived in Sweden last week, to shoot for the first time with Östlund, whose last film The Square won the Palme d’Or at Cannes 2017 and was nominated for the foreign language film Oscar. Prior to that Force Majeure (2014) played in Un Certain Regard at Cannes and won the jury prize.

Ruben Östlund says: “I've never been happier to be back on a shoot. It was very uncertain if we would be able to get Woody into Sweden in time. I have said before that I want to build a Real Madrid of the ensemble, that it should be a carefully selected team where every position has exactly the correct player and it really felt that way when Woody showed his qualities. It was impressive to see, a new level of acting."

Woody Harrelson got his first major role in the comedy White Men Can't Jump (1992). From there, he went on to land major roles in Adrian Lyne’s Indecent Proposal (1993) and Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers (1994). Woody Harrelson has since appeared in Roland Emmerich’s 2012 (2009), Zombiland (2009), The Hunger Games series (2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015), Now You See Me (2013, 2016), and the HBO series True Detective, to name a few.

Woody Harrelson says: "Not a lot could have pulled me half-way round the world in these uncertain times but to work with the genius Ruben Östlund, what a privilege. It's already been one of the most gratifying experiences I've ever had.”

In Triangle of Sadness, the model couple Carl (Dickinson) and Yaya (Dean) are invited on a luxury cruise. But as the yacht sinks, they are left stranded on a desert island with a group of billionaires and a cleaning lady (De Leon). In the fight for survival, hierarchy is turned upside-down. The film is Ruben Östlund’s first English-language feature, and an epic satire that takes on the world of fashion and the super rich.

Triangle of Sadness is produced by Plattform Produktion and co-produced by Film i Väst, Essential Films, Coproduction Office, SVT, BBC Films, Arte France Cinéma, and ZDF/Arte, with support from The Swedish Film Institute, Eurimages, BFI, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, The Danish Film Institute, Hamburg Film Fund, and Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Imperative Entertainment are executive producers. Danish co-producer is Per Damgaard Hansen for Coproduction Office APS. SF Studios has the Nordic rights and will distribute the film in the Nordics.
