Today at the film festival in Cannes, it is announced that SF Studios boards Bloody Men (Swedish title: Jävla karlar) as Nordic distributor. The award-winning novel will be transferred to the screen by director Jens Sjögren and screenwriter Jakob Beckman. B-Reel Films produces the film which is expected to have its theatrical release through SF Studios during fall 2026.
This fall, filming begins on Bloody Men in Västra Götaland, Sweden. The film is based on the bestselling hit novel by Andrev Walden which has won multiple awards, been sold to over 30 countries, and topped bestseller lists in both Sweden and Norway.
“There’s a wide range of exciting characters in this film, and we’ve put a lot of effort into finding the right cast — from all the children, to the boys playing Andrev, and all the other characters. It feels great to start revealing parts of the cast, including Aliette and Filip, who both play important roles in the film,” says Fredrik Heining, producer at B-Reel Films.
This will be director Jens Sjögren’s third feature film, following successes like I Am Zlatan and the TV series The Pirate Bay. It also marks Sjögren’s third collaboration with producer Fredrik Heinig and screenwriter Jakob Beckman.
“It’s such a powerful character-driven drama, so I’m especially thrilled to be part of presenting such a dynamic, comedic, and emotionally gripping cast for this film. It’s a real joy to introduce Aliette and Filip in two major roles here today,” says Jens Sjögren, director.
As in Walden’s novel, we follow 7-year-old Andrev growing up in 1980s Sweden, beginning with the moment he brutally learns that the man he believed to be his father is not. Rather than being devastated, Andrev is excited by the possibilities this revelation opens up. With the resilience of a child, he navigates life and his mother’s more or less destructive relationships with various men. It’s a coming-of-age story filled with both darkness and humour — about love for an incapable mother, about a bunch of damn men, and about not becoming one of them.
"Bloody Men struck a chord with every reader upon its arrival in Sweden. With undeniable sharpness, insight, humor, and emotion, the story reached straight into our hearts. SF Studios is incredibly proud of the collaboration with B-Reel Films and looks forward to Jens Sjögren’s powerful vision of Walden’s book—one that honors, protects, but also breathes new and magnificent life into the story about a son, a mother, and a hell of a lot of men...", says Yaba Holst, Head of Nordic Acquisition, SF Studios
Aliette Opheim (Caliphate) plays Andrev’s mother, with Filip Berg (A Man Called Ove) appearing as one of the Andrev’s mother’s various men.
The film is produced by Fredrik Heinig at B-Reel Films. SF Studios distributes the film in the Nordics, with a theatrical release planned for fall 2026.
