SF Studios to produce the first Swedish Netflix film "Red Dot"

15 November 2019 - Last updated 15 June 2020

Netflix anounced today its first Swedish Netflix film, the action thriller Red Dot, that will be produced by SF Studios. Red Dot will be launched exclusively on Netflix globally. Alain Darborg will direct the film that he co-wrote with Per Dickson.

Red Dot is an action thriller set in the mountains in the north of Sweden, and focuses on two characters, David and Nadja, a couple in their late twenties currently struggling with their marriage. When Nadja becomes pregnant they make an attempt to rekindle their relationship by travelling to the magnificent expanses in the north of Sweden for a hiking trip. After a quarrel with two local hunters however, their romantic trip slowly turns into a nightmare when a red laser dot appears in their tent and they are forced to flee into the cold, unforgiving wilderness. Totally isolated in the mountains, they are pursued not only by the shooters, but a past which comes back to haunt them.

Alain Darborg, director of Red Dot, has previously directed SF Studios productions such as the thriller series Alex. He has developed and co-written the film together with Per Dickson.

“I first discovered that I was going to be a father when out hiking in the Swedish mountains. It all felt overwhelming and amazing. I was at the same time struck by the loneliness of the place and what it might feel like if there was maniac out in wilderness shooting at us. It was the combination of these emotions that was the original idea behind Red Dot – an action thriller about the fear of becoming a parent (and being shot in the face). My ambition is to do a hair-raising film with high speed and spectacular scenes and with an emotional core”, says Alain Darborg, director and writer of Red Dot.

Red Dot will be produced by SF Studios and producer Niklas Larsson. SF Studios is also currently producing the Netflix original series Snabba Cash.

”I am so excited to do this project with Alain and Per. I love genre film and when Alain and Per presented the script for Red Dot, I just felt it was a project we had to do. Alain has an extraordinary ability to capture the audience and to balance the desire to watch with the fear of watching. To also have the chance to produce the first Swedish Netflix film for a global audience feels amazing”, says Niklas Larsson, producer at SF Studios.

Today, Netflix furthermore announced its first Norwegian Netflix film Cadaver, produced by Motion Blur, that will be exclusively launched on Netflix globally. Netflix also announced the global acquisition of Danish feature film Shadows in My Eyes, produced by Miso Film, which will have a theatrical release in Denmark followed by a Netflix global launch outside of Denmark. SF Studios will distribute the film.

”We are very happy to be taking this exciting step in offering our members in the Nordics more local content, as well as bring more great content from the Nordic region to our global members. These three films are all unique in their own way; strong genre films with engaging plotlines that are driven by talented creatives. Together they form a strong package of different genres which will showcase the versatility and high quality of Nordic movies”, says Lina Brouneus, Director of Licensing and Co-Productions Netflix Northern Europe.
